The alternate flywheel shown in the final four shots is no longer available as the first ten of this model have been sold. The brass flywheel was given as a gift to the first ten purchasers. This engine is designed to be the counterpart of another engine made by myself called 'MINOR'. MAJOR is a fully functional single acting oscillating steam engine comprised of brass and steel with a piston of stainless and an inlet/exhaust combination of copper. The cylinder bore is 6.35mm (1/4") and the stroke length is 12.7mm (1/2"). It runs anti-clockwise. As a tribute to the era of steam, it is mounted on a small piece of reclaimed antique pine which I believe to be old enough to have seen the prime of the era of steam power. This
engine comes with a Certificate of Authenticity with the signature and
seal of the maker, Ben Peake. On the certificate it shows the number of
the engine (of this model) to have been made in the Peake workshop.
Also included, is a small manual which explains a few things about the
maintenance and running of this compact, yet powerful engine. It is available in the For Sale section of this site. Thanks go to my customer, OZSTEAMDEMON for this last video of both MAJOR and MINOR running on steam from his very fine boiler. Thanks OZSTEAMDEMON! peake-engines@hotmail.com |
