Little Wiz was commissioned by a valued client of Peake Engines, with the following specifications; the engine must be self starting and in a similar style to Minor. For a steam engine to be self starting it must have at least two cylinders, thus this commission gave rise to the very first twin cylinder engine by Ben Peake. In fact the very first multi-cylinder engine. Each of the cylinders is double acting and the crank pins are offset by approximately 90 degrees. The engine runs very nicely indeed, stopping and starting on command with a very slow idle speed. I'm very happy with Little Wiz and am sure more multi-cylinder engines will be produced in future as a result of Little Wiz's success.  |
